Museo del Jamon was a nice experience for a first time tourist like me in Madrid. It’s nothing fancy, but it was cool eating amidst the walls full of hanging Jamon. You can also buy different cold cuts, cheeses, etc. to take home.

A simple jamón ibérico de bellota sandwich costs 4.50 € which is a great light meal. Bellota means acorn and a jamón ibérico de bellota is the finest kind of Iberico ham. It is made with free-range pigs that have been fed a diet of only acorns and is cured for a longer period than other kinds of Iberico ham. Spain is famous for their Jamon and I had as much of it as I could when I was in Madrid!

This place is great for a quick bite of sandwiches. But I would recommend eating at the bar instead of on mesas (tables) because service is faster.

The mesas are more comfortable but during rush hour it can be hard to get the attention of the waiter.

We went to the Museo del Jamon on Paseo del Prado after the Museo del Prado. After hours in the museum, we were famished and the location nearby was perfect. It is also the first Museo del Hamon that opened in 1978. Now there are several other “museums” around Madrid which you can find on their website below.
