How To: Sew Lace On a Jacket DIY

Pimp an old jacket with lace!
Remember this outfit from september? It featured this jacket from Mango which I love so much. Unfortunately I always get annoyed that the back of the jacket attracts tons of dust, and as it's black, it's so clearly visible. So when a crochet jacket was casually hanging over this one in my closet I noticed how nice the effect looked. It gave me the idea to go buy some fabric to recreate the feel and to make this jacket even prettier (without the dusty back). I was surprised how fast I was able to make it. Thus I thought: why not take photo's of the process and share it on the blog so you guys can recreate something similar and give an old garment a new life.

What you'll need:
- A Jacket
- Lace Fabric
- Needle and Thread
- Scissors
- Pins

I took my jacket with me to the fabrics store so I could see how all the different types of lace looked. I went for a pattern that transitions into tiny flowers towards the top. As the sides of the jacket with all the pearls already grab the attention, I wanted something subtle with enough see-through so the back wouldn't curse with the sides.

1. Once you've got your fabric, lay it out over your jacket and decide on how the pattern should look.
2. I had excess fabric on the sides so I cut off a part on the left side and pinned the lace on the jacket nicely in line with the hem.
3. Continue pinning it all around the sides and make sure that the lace is spread out evenly (we don't want bumps later on).
4. Take your needle and black thread and start hand sewing the lace on the jacket.
5. Once you're done, take out all the pins & carefully cut-off the excess lace. Et voila! You're finished, easy right?
