How To: DIY Lampshade IKEA Hack

Super Easy IKEA Hack - Pimp your own Minimalist Lampshade
Today I was invited by IKEA Belgium to discover their new 'Save The Furniture' project which just launched. Way too many old furniture ends up in a garage or attic. People even bring their old stuff to the container parks way too soon, while there is definitely still a use for them. Therefore IKEA launched this project that hopes to show everyone there are different solutions to keep your undesirable items from turning into waste. There are 5 options: 1. Sell Your Old IKEA Furniture: if it's is still in good condition, you can sell it back to the store. 2. Repair Them: lost an important screw during your move? Go to the store and you'll probably be able to buy that little key piece or whatever else is damaged. 3. Give Them Away: to the 'Kringloopwinkel'. 4. Return Them: upon receiving your new sofa you can give back your old one with the movers. 5. Renew Them: This is where my blogpost becomes important. More often than not, furniture is still in a perfect shape, it's just your style that has changed or you're tired of looking at the same piece for all those years now. Well then, get out your DIY kit and get creative! We're turning old pieces into shining new stars. Find out more about the 'Save The Furniture' project here & other cool DIY inspirations here.
Oh and if you want to see another DIY blogpost for a lamp I made a while back, go here.

So I attended a workshop to try out solution number 5: we all received a white lampshade and could go wild with cool stuff. I'm sure all of you guys have these things at home already. Think Ombre dip-dye effects with paint, ribbons, drawings made with a black & yellow pen (I was so jealous of this guys skills),… I chose the really quick & easy approach of simply winding sewing thread around the lampshade. I went for one minimal in black and one with black & white thread. Upon coming home I figured I could have used orange thread too (as my interior is black & white with colorful touches, especially orange). But hey next time right ;) Who knows I might just re-use the lampshade and make something else with it in the future.

What you'll need:
- Old Lampshade
- Sewing Thread
- Scissors

1. So find yourself an old lampshade you want to give a new life & a color scheme for the sewing thread.
2. Go around your lampshade one full time and make a knot. Cut off any loose ends.
3. Start making circles around your lampshade with your thread in whatever way you like, be creative!
4. Cut off your thread from the sewing still.
5. Admire your end result, it's that easy!
