DIY Faux Fur Hammock

ok major DIY fail...i had taken process pics but they were either lost or deleted, so i'll have to just try to explain this the best i can. i'll update this post if i find them.

if you caught my post on indoor hammocks then you know i've been wanting one forever. and i can tell you having a hammock in your house is equally as amazing as it sounds, if not more so.

cost: around $120. faux fur blanket was the biggest expense.

materials:
-hammock (similar one here- color doesn't matter, but i'd steer for neutral)
-faux fur blanket and/or fabric for the top
-stretchy knit fabric in complimentary color for the bottom
-hammock hanging hardware, drill, possibly extra rope

1. make sure all the fabric you buy will be sufficient to cover the hammock, with about 5-10 inches left over. The fabric you chose for the bottom should be in a complimentary color (i went with dark brown) and have lots of stretch. this is important. the first time i tried this, the fabric was woven and the whole thing ripped when i sat in it. you need a lot of give to keep stress off the seams.

2. lay out your knit fabric first, then the hammock, flattened out as much as possible, then the faux fur on top. Working on one end, you want to cut notches in the stretch fabric that will allow you to fold them over in between the rope so you can sew them to the faux fur blanket. it would also be possible to just sew them where they meet in between the ropes, but the finished look will not be as clean.

3. sew the stretch fabric and the faux fur together where they meet in between the ropes. start with the outermost section on the left side, then the outermost on the right side and alternate inwards. That way, if you end up with extra fabric, you can start scrunching in together in the middle of the underside of the hammock where it will be least visible. Then move to the other side. Make sure your hammock isn't flipped inside before sewing.

4. hang your hammock. uh disclaimer, do this at your own risk because you could fall and bust your ass or damage your walls. i'll just tell you what i did.
this video was helpful in showing how to properly install eye bolts in the walls for a hammock. i used this hammock hang calculator to figure out how high to install the eye bolts in the wall.

so there you go. sorry about the lack of pictures. if you have any questions, hit me up and i'll try to help.
