Going Places {Peltekians Take the PNW: Day 5}

Day 5 is also known as the last day of our Pacific Northwest vacation. *Insert sobbing emoji here*

We hustled that morning to pack up and get out the door. Just a few last things in Portland to see before we headed back to Seattle for our flight home.

Our first stop was VooDoo Doughnuts. Now, listen everyone. You’ve all heard of it and been told to do go there if you’re in Portland, right? As a true tourist and lover of all things landmark – not to mention all things junk food – I say this with the utmost respect and love:

VooDoo Doughnuts sucks.

It lures you in with it’s funky decor and crazy-topped donuts. There’s just something right about the smell of coffee coming from a hot pink building. So you order more than you should, because you can’t try just one, and then you sit down and take your first bite of a maple bacon doughnut and you’re all “What is happening?” You put it down to take a bite of a stale Cap’n Crunch doughnut and you’re all “What have I done?” You sip the bitter coffee and realize you’ve made a huge mistake.

I’m sorry, but even someone like me, who loves crappy food… I couldn’t do it. It was disgusting. I think Stevie was on the right track with his plain sugar doughnut. When in Rome, as they say. Just be warned you will probably get a stomach ache.

As we drove around, wallowing in regret, we came upon a really nice neighborhood which led to a really nice lake. So we parked and played outside for a bit. Saw some wild geese, which honestly left me a little disappointed that we didn’t take time to see more nature (do moose live in Portland?) We played at the playground, crunched some leaves, and chased some squirrels too.

Then as we drove back toward the city, we looked up and noticed an aerial tram! Well, we simply MUST do that!! It was a beautiful view and a beautiful day to be above the trees.

After lunch, we started the drive back to Seattle. This time, I’m happy to report Stevie didn’t talk about Papa Ron’s truck the whole way!!! He talked about Grandma’s house. *Smack to the forehead* But we made it to the airport with a little rain to send us out, and made it home, and got dropped right back into the swing of things. Busy busy.

Is it too soon for another vacation? My husband will tell you yes.
