Baby's Going Home Outfit

The oh so important going home outfit. Baby can't wear just anything to arrive home for the first time. And my baby couldn't come home without at least one handmade item. In the final weeks of pregnancy I realized that Ronan didn't have a special going home outfit and in regular crazy pregnant lady form I set out to fix that, not by picking up something cute at Target, but by knitting, dying, painting, and button making. I love the little things I made although they were admittedly totally unnecessary. In fact, it was too warm to don a cap and booties upon discharge so these photos where taken about a week later.

The cap is from More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts

. I used Cascade Yarns Cloud in Navy and made a few modifications. To achieve a newborn size I used size 6 needles. I also made the band about 2" shorter and only knit straight across the top for 2". The button on the cap and shoes are mama-made of polymer clay.

The booties are a modified version of these. I made them slightly larger and added button holes. (Click here for a the free Bitty Baby Booties pattern!) It's hard to see in this picture, but one of the booties has a star button and the other one has a moon. The pants are from Old Navy, a gift from my mama who keeps both of my boys outfitted in adorable ready to wear.

The shirt is a basic onesie dyed in the same pot as the swaddle blankets. I used this dye

and I love how it doesn't take to the poly thread. I then made a simple freezer paper stencil and painted the little paper moon.

Here's to coming home in handmades.
