Rest Easy, S’s From the Weekend, a Smoothie Pinning Contest and a “Dirty” Protein Green Tea Latte

I’m incorporating one full rest day every week into my schedule. I try to do this, but sometimes with my work schedule and races it doesn’t happen.

It made it a little easier to push hard all week knowing that today was my rest day. It was fabulous.

I like to read why rest days are important when my mind tries to play tricks on me. Tonight I found this article, “Rest Easy”, that I really like. It also says that 80-85% of your weekly mileage should be easy running. I’m pretty sure mine is.

Back in the day I never really took rest days unless they were planned and I pretty much crashed. Back in the day I also used to consume obscene amounts of Splenda on a daily basis and I was particularly grumpy a lot of the time. Weird how that works.

S’s from the weekend.

Enjoying this sunset with my boys.

Some serious chicken sausage, roasted delicata squash and Frieda’s Ghost Chilies. Those are no joke.

It’s football season and all so I had a late quiet dinner on the couch and finally watched the rest of The Biggest Loser.

Side of No Grain Seedy Silk STUFT Bread with garlic and nutritional yeast for the win.

By the way this season of The Biggest Loser looks like it’s going to be awesome!

I was super excited to sleep in today and stay in pajamas as long as possible. Someone else had other plans and we were up together at 5:25 am, but at least we stayed in our pajamas and just played for awhile.

I was never really into Star Wars, but my sister-in-law gave the boys this awesome transporter.

A special thank you to Facebook and Instagram friends for making me look cool as I told the boys that it is an AT AT.

Wall sits. I’ve been really lagging on getting some cross-training information and workouts up here on the blog. I keep meaning to put some workouts together with my cool HumanX gear. I’ll put together a little game day workout for us this week sometime, but today the boys and I bothered our Charger party friends with a couple wall sits. Sometimes you don’t need any equipment at all (except for cowboy boots).

I’m totally late telling you about this, but FitFluential has a September #FFWallSit challenge going on and you can win some pretty cool prizes. Details are here: September Wall Sit Challenge.

We also came up with some really great cheers.

There was even a special half time show.

It was a small little Charger Party today, but Mom, Carol and I have a goal to have a different themed Charger Party every week depending on what team they’re playing. The food we eat has to go with the opposing team’s location.

Today it was all about fish tacos for the Seattle Seahawks.

Carol made this amazing Mexican shrimp appetizer.

I got off easy and was in charge of tortillas, cabbage and cheese. Kirkland Brand margarita cheers to that!

My game day eats looked a little like this.

Oh heck yes. In that bowl is real vanilla ice cream, carrot cake (those cupcakes from Costco are the best), a white chocolate macadamia cookie and caramel corn.

Bam.

Sometimes I sub in healthy options, sometimes I go for all the good stuff.

I won’t leave you with that to stare at. I will tell you about a really cool contest that Vega is doing on Pinterest.

Again, I’m a little late in passing this along, but the contest runs from September 2nd – September 30th

It’s a little late at night and I need to get to bed, but I started my Best Vega Smoothie Recipes Pinterest board with a few pinned recipes.

Vega has a TON of recipes I want to try on their board like a red velvet smoothie, a cherry pie smoothie and a carrot cake one. (I pinned them all on my board. He he.)

I didn’t have time to pin more than just a few recipes to try, but I did have time to make a healthy version of my old favorite Starbucks drink over the weekend.

It’s a “dirty” protein green tea latte.

Yep. Here you go.

“Dirty” Protein Green Tea Latte

1 1/2 cups milk of choice (I like Silk unsweetened vanilla almondmilk)

1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder

1/2-1 scoop Vega vanilla protein powder (I like the Vega Sport)

splash of vanilla

2 shots espresso (or 2 teaspoons instant coffee)

ice

Blend all ingredients except for the espresso. pour over ice. Add chilled espresso.

Mmmmm hmmm…

I’m pinning my own recipe. That’s okay, right? (I’m not in on all the Pinterest rules.)

Hope you had a great weekend and your Monday is off to a great start!

Anyone else have one of those Star Wars AT AT transporters?

What were your game day eats?

What’s your favorite drink to order from coffee shops?
