Slide-what?

I have one of those confession type things about a footwear trend that is cropping up. It's been bugging me. I have talked about it with other people and perhaps I'll change my mind about those slide sandal flipflop things. But for now, I'm just a bit confused.

(image from here) Is this supposed to look like a cast-off from the Clueless stoner crowd scene? Maybe this is one of those fashion things that I'll catch at the tail-end and feel a fool for doubting these things on my feet. For now, I'm going to say, I'm not sure about these.
