5 Things I’m loving lately

Life is awesome! I guess it’s just one of those weeks. I’m feeling good, feeling great. Just enjoying some of the simple pleasures.

1. My kids: Ok this may seem like a giant “DUH” but for a little while there I felt like I was strapped into a sinking ship that was going down. We’re talking Titanic-style and there was no lifeboat left for me. I was plummeting towards a dark and frozen abyss from which I’d find no return.

Ok… Maybe it wasn’t that bad. But seriously, I was kind of melting down with the whole “how do I do everything with two kids?!” thing. I guess it was just a combination of not sleeping much and feeling like all I do every dang day is make meals and clean up messes. Not fun.

But lately, it has been fun. Getting a schedule going, I’m finding, is a game-changer. We’re having more fun together and I’m finding ways to better manage my time, which in turn lowers my stress-level. I’m seeing how special they each are in their own ways. I still feel like I’m pinching myself about getting my dream babies. I have a daughter whose day is made when I paint her nails sparkly pink; and a son who doesn’t love any woman as much as he loves his mama.

2. Frozen: I seriously can’t get enough of this movie and the music and characters. Disney should be sponsoring my blog for how much I’ve been pimping them lately.

3. Boston Market: Speaking of blog sponsors… These guys have hooked me up to try 35 meals in 35 days and I’ve never had so much home-style cooked food in my life. It’s like I’m eating Thanksgiving every day. One of my favorite meals this last week was the market bowl with mashed potatoes and sweet corn and the Southwest Santa Fe Salad with Rotisserie Chicken. It’s delightful being able to pig out on delicious meals that A. I didn’t have to cook and B. Are less than 550 calories. We had friends over to watch the Super Bowl (what an overrated game!) and we ate a lot of Boston Market.

4. Reading: My husband got me an iPad mini for Christmas and since we didn’t have Wi-Fi for a month, I transferred e-books from my computer to my tablet. I made it through the Divergent series. Then when Internet came through I was hooked on reading. My library uses OverDrive so I’ve been making wish lists and checking out books almost every week. If you have any good recommendations let me know so I can add them to this list!

I’m usually into fiction but I thought it would be fun to delve into nonfiction this year. I just finished Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) and laughed the whole way though. It was my first shot at reading an autobiography and I thought it was really good. Now I’m reading Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In. I don’t get to read much during the day, but it’s something to look forward to when I’m rocking the kids to sleep, or during middle-of-the-night feedings. I’m thoroughly enjoying getting back into reading again.

5. Church: I’m having a blast in our new ward (congregation), meeting people, and watching my daughter enjoy Primary. I got a new calling (a service position) with the young women (12-17) in our ward and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m also giving a talk (like a sermon) next Sunday and I’m halfway excited halfway nervous about it… Mostly because our service starts at 8:30am and I’ve only made it on time once so far this year.

Also, I must admit, dressing my little dapper duy up is something I’ve been looking forward to every Sunday.

*Bonus love*: Army Wives. I turn it on in the background while I’m blogging, editing pictures, what have you, and it’s a really good show!

*Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Boston Market. All opinions expressed are my own. I wouldn’t lie about good food.
