Antique Chairs…recovered (again)

Hey guys, I recently recovered a few antique chairs and thought I'd share this project with you. These chairs once belonged to my hubby's sweet Grandmother, so I decided not to paint them. Although I have to admit, I still want to paint them!
Here's the Before…

I actually recovered these chairs several years ago when our dining room had a color scheme of reds and golds. But now that our home is gravitating towards blues and grays…they needed an update once again! Check out this Awesome fabric I found at Old Time Pottery for just $20. I can't remember exactly how many yards but there's enough fabric here to cover 4 chairs at least.

Here are the supplies I used for this project...
Cotton Batting (Michael's Crafts) $4.99 Fabric - Old Time Pottery $20.00 ruler scissors staple gun screw driver tape measure

The first step is to cut your batting and fabric a few inches larger than the seat. Then if your fabric has a pattern, you'll need to line up the fabric accordingly.
Next, with my staple gun, I began stapling the batting and fabric to the seat board, pulling the fabric tight in between each staple. Now the corners can be tricky. I used two staples for each corner. You can also fold the fabric corners like a present if your batting isn't too thick.

Don't judge the underneath side…no one sees that ;)

Here's a close up of one chair all finished. Isn't this fabric fabulous? And greek key patterns are so popular right now in interior design!

These chairs are actually only used for extra seating when we entertain family and friends. Right now one is in the corner of our dining room, and the other sits in our home office.

This was such a fun week-end project. Now I've got extra seating with stylish decorator fabric seats! So what do you guys think? Should I convince the hubby to let me paint them, or because they are a family antique…leave them dark?
