Reeve Coobs

He's a Winner!

So...Gus Gus is a show dog now. I had absolutely no plan on having a show dog as a pet. But, turns out he's a natural and the breeder wanted to try him out. And I guess you could say the rest is history. He's only done 3 weekends of shows and is already a Champion (don't worry if you don't know what that means - I didn't either, but I learned a lot from reading THIS). Technically he finished his championship the second weekend. Last weekend he scored his first few points towards his Grand Championship.
Oh, and we had to change his official name so he could show...they all have show names that are similar to horse names. He is now Ch. Terra Oaks A-Gus-Ta Wind.
Here are all the ribbons he's won so far...

he had to get in the picture too...

Last weekend the show was in Concord, NC which is right down the street from me so I got to go see him for the first time. The other times I've been playing shows out of town and told people he was performing too:)
I've never been to a dog show and wasn't really sure what to expect. All I knew of dog shows was the movie, Best in Show. Turns out, there's a whole lot more to it than that or what you see on televised show on Thanksgiving. Most dog shows are much smaller than that and they are literally going on ALL WEEKEND. I mean at least 75 shows a day. It's crazy and busy loud and happy! I wasn't expecting the happy. I mean, I didn't think it was be sad but I guess in my mind I thought it would be more serious. Don't get me wrong, these folks take it seriously BUT it's just not all work. The dogs are, for the most part, having a ton of fun. I'm not sure how much fun the dogs that require hours and hours of grooming are having as much fun as my little guy.
Basically all weekend he gets treats upon treats upon treats. So, in other words...he REALLY likes being a show dog:)
Here is a little video I took from his first time in a Group Show (this means he won 1st prize in the boston terrier owner-handler class and so he moves on to compete against other owner-handler winners in the non-sporting group) I say all this believing that I understand what's going on now, but I could be horribly wrong - I'm still learning.

and here is his pretty new ribbon...

His first weekend out he came home with all this - including the silver plate below:) I guess he really is a natural.

But just so you don't think he's all work and no play. Here's a video of him fighting a food bowl:)

oh and he also won two costume contests this past halloween...he really is a winner!
