Find The Perfect Nail Polish For Your Skin Tone

Have you ever fallen in love with your friend’s gorgeous nail colour only to find it doesn’t look half as good on you as it does on her? Well the reason for this is that not all colours will suit everyone and the trick is understanding which colours best suit your skin tone.

Follow our simple guide to finding the perfect hue for you and your nails will always look on pointe and you’ll also avoid costly mistakes buying polish that goes to waste.

Firstly, you’ll need to work out what your skin tone is and the good news is, it’s not as hard as you may think.

The easiest way to do this is to take a close look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Are they blue or green? If they look more blue, you most likely have cool undertones. If your veins look more greenish then you’re warm. If you really can’t decide whether they are blue or green then it’s likely you have a neutral tone.

Now you’ve worked that out follow our simple guide to choosing the perfect hue for you.

Best Nail Colour for Warm Skin Tones: If you have a warmer skin tone you’ll need to avoid nail polishes with cool undertones. Try using warms pinks, deep browns, corals with yellow undertones or white-pink sheer colours. For a boost of colour, opt for a bright orangey shade.

Best Nail Colour for Cool Skin Tones: For cool skin tones look out for colours with blue under tones. If you want to wear red nail polish try using a cool berry shade. If you like wearing pink then opt for a pink with bluish undertones and avoid beige undertones.

If you have a neutral skin tone – you’re one of the lucky ones. You can pull off most colours but just be aware you will probably tend to sway more one way more than the other. If you’re still confused try the old jewellery trick. Think about whether you look better in silver or gold jewellery (not which you like more, but which one makes you look more radiant, glowing, and awake.) Typically, girls with cool undertones look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-tones look better in gold.
