Creating Memories Under The Mistletoe

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Glade® . The opinions and text expressed in this post are all mine.

There are so many things that I love about Christmas, but one of my favorite things that the holidays conjure up are memories. I have so many different memories of different times and places, and it’s funny how easy they are to remember when given something that reminds you of them. It can be something as simple as a word, a picture, or a look that reminds you of times past. One of the most jarring sensations for me, however, is the way a certain smell can transport you right back to the past. Memories Under the Mistletoe.

As I am sitting here thinking of Christmas time that has past, I am surrounded by the light and distinct smell of the Under The Mistletoe Glade® candle that you can find only at Target. It’s the starter scent that is reminding me of all of the other favorite times, places, and smells from Christmas. One of my favorite memories is of me being a small child in Germany and learning about Christmas in a European setting.

Being a daughter in a military family afforded me many different things, and travel being one of the most common items. I was born in Germany and spent several years as a young child growing up over seas. One of the first things I remember from Germany and Christmas was St. Nick’s Day. It was a European custom for us to leave a shoe or boot outside of the door the night before, and if you were good you would have candy and small presents left in the boot or shoe. If you were bad, you were left with a tree branch. (I never had any of those.) It was such a cool idea, and for the very first time our family is going to do this with our children this year.

To do this we are not going to use our regular walking shoes or boots (because I am honestly just a tad too neurotic and a germaphobe), instead we are going to use these fun chalkboard labeled buckets.

We will place one for each child outside of our door this year on the night of December 5th and hope that St. Nick will remember to stop over here for the candy and presents for the kids.

I honestly love incorporating this fun European tradition into the holiday festivities. It helps us talk a little more about the different traditions around the world, as well as opens up the conversation to other fun memories we have as well. All it takes is a little spark, something that reminds us of those fun memories that have passed.

Are you going to start a new holiday tradition this year? What familiar items bring back memories from holidays past? Is it fresh baked bread, or hot cocoa with marshmallows? Leave a comment and let me know!

If you are looking for an inviting holiday scent, you can find the limited edition Under The Mistletoe Glade® candle exclusively at Target.
