Peek at my Week~American Symbols
Last week time seemed to get away from me. I think all of these snow days and special schedules have me a little turned upside down. It is frustrating when you get to the end of your day and you realized you had to skip a few things. If I let each activity take 5 minutes longer than I had planned, then by the end of the day I can lose a significant amount of instructional time. Additionally, those extra 5 minutes can sometimes lead to behavior issues. So I will be using my big! fat! timer! again this week to get me (and my sweeties) back up to speed.
This is the timer that I use and I love that the students can see how much time we have left.
Another time saver that I think I will try is using my poems as a transition song. Currently we read/sing our poem 3-4 times each morning before doing a sort or activity in our poetry notebooks (the interactive poetry supplement is coming... I promise). The kids love it and it builds fluency, but it takes a little more time. So I think we will read/sing it once then more to the word activity. Then when we transition from one activity to another and I want them to return to the carpet, I will start to sing the poem. I will start the week by singing a part and having them echo it back to me. By the end of the week, we will sing it all together! Since we are singing about
money this next week, I REALLY want them to know these words.
This was last week's poem. I wanted to show you where I kept my
past poems. The students can grab a poem from the past and reconstruct it when they have finished an activity. They love this!
Here is a photo of my friends working on an
early finisher poem. I love that I do not need to create anything new! They used their poetry notebooks to help them reconstruct the
older poems.
Math Workshop went well this week!
As you can tell, we are still on
Unit 4! UGH! I feel so behind! No! More! Snow! Days! Did you know that
Unit 5 and
Unit 6 are done... and waiting for me to catch up?!
Here are a few photos of our stations this past week.

Word Family Sort-Winter Olympics Theme Before I forget! Here is one of the games we played during our Valentine's Day party. One of my room parents organized all the games (she is straight-up amazing). The students had to suction the conversation heart on the end of their straw and dump it into the bucket.
Here are my plans for next week.
If you click on the image, you can download the PDF with they hyperlinks. I will *try* to edit this photo so the hyperlinks can be seen directly from my blog, but that takes a long, LONG time and I'm not sure if I can get to it today.
