Last week I wanted a project that would be fun and quick. I also needed something to hold my pile of Getta Grip Clips that I seem to use all the time. Then these fabulous new prints from Cotton and Steel were calling my name and thus the Fabric Bucket was born!

I love functional pieces, especially if they’re cute. This small fabric bucket is a pretty and practical piece that will hold all sort of things. Great for holding notions and gadgets, it would also be perfect for toiletries, small office supplies, snacks and more! It makes a great gift when filled with special treats.

I had so much fun making the first one that I made three and have plans for a few more. I think these will definitely make an appearance at Sew South this year too!

Fabric Bucket Pattern

How cute would these be filled with Valentine treats or Easter goodies? Lots of possibilities! I added some hand embroidery on the center panel of the front one and love the texture it adds to the cute purse print. Really you are only limited by your imagination with these. That center strip would be super cute pieced with tiny patchwork or flying geese too!

I’ve included directions for making the bucket with a decorative strip as below or for using a single print as the outer fabric.

The bottom is made flat by boxing the corners and the bucket has some stiffness by adding fusible interfacing to the batting. You could also use a fusible fleece such as Thermolam instead of batting.

I love how the lining folds over to make a decorative band at the top of the bucket.

It adds a pop of color and makes a simple and polished way to hide those raw edges.
