~Added Some Finds to the Dining Room~

Last Thursday, I got into gear and decided to work on some of my dining room decor. I was a little tired of the corner filled with batting and foam (waiting to be used for a headboard project) and the dining room table covered with miscellaneous goodies. Sometimes my dining room becomes a catch-all for everything that comes through the door.

In my quest to get the dining room in order, the first thing I grabbed was this mail sorter from the garage. It was part of a desk set that belonged to my husband’s grandmother. While I’ve not found a place for the desk, I knew I could use the mail sorter in several places throughout the house. Since the wood tones were almost identical, I chose to use it on my Welsh Cabinet.

It’s a free-standing piece which makes it easy to move and use. I placed it in the center of the cabinet and filled it with some of my favorite vintage finds, such as my dominos from a flea market in England and the small bell that was also my husband’s grandmother.

There are still a few empty slots, but that just means I need to go on the hunt for some more fun pieces.

To balance out the mail sorter on the cabinet, I added some crocks, bowls and wooden spools on top and in front of the piece.

After the mail sorter was sorted, I cleaned off the dining room table and sat my favorite dried flower arrangement in the center. I love the brilliant color of the flowers.

I love my antique harvest table. It’s long and beautiful and seats eight. The table is surrounded by a set of reproduction Windsor chairs. I’d love it if they were a set of antique chairs, but at least these are strong and sturdy.

In the corner, against the wall, I placed my new dough bowl from the Ballard Designs Outlet. Because it’s an outlet find, it’s not “perfect.” It doesn’t sit completely straight when placed on a table or a flat surface. Therefore, I decided to lean it against the wall.

On either side of the Welsh Cabinet, I placed my recent purchase from Target; a set of two chairs on sale for $44. Great chairs at a great price!

I love when I get a room in order. It feels great to add some pieces and create a new look in a space.

Now it’s time to move to the next room in the house that needs my attention…my master bedroom!
