Welcome Home Outdoor Christmas Decorations (House on the Way)

How do you welcome people home for the holidays? Do you hang a wreath on the door or put candles in the windows? Maybe you string lights along the landscaping. Each year I try to create a warm and welcoming outdoor scene for Christmas. I want my friends and family to get a little Christmas spirit before they even walk through the front door. That’s why I always have some “welcome home” outdoor Christmas decorations to share.

Normally, I have a wreath on every window, dressed with a pretty red bow. This year, I’ve went in a different direction with my indoor Christmas decorations, so I decided to extend that to my outdoor decor as well.

It really wasn’t that hard because I used my wreath from two years ago, with a few minor adjustments. I replaced the red and black ribbon with my new black, white and burlap ribbon and removed the red berries. I also added some black and silver ball ornaments to the wreath.

On each side of my door, I added a swag of greenery with more of my new ribbon. They were leftovers from the swags that I used on my stairs instead of garland a couple of years ago. They’re so easy to make and look fabulous. They can be hung with basic suction cup hooks or 3M command strips.

My planters were filled with more greenery and pinecones. The bottom of the planter is filled with basic green garland. I just bunched it together and filled the base. Then I simply inserted two great evergreen floral picks into the center of the arrangement. I also added some golden floral picks that I had from a earlier project. They’re not a Christmas floral, but I love the pop of color. I think it works well with the burlap ribbon. I love the way they droop over the edge of the planter. It makes it look fuller and adds amazing interest.

On my two french doors I added wreaths with ribbon. They’re simple and beautiful. I didn’t add the black and silver ornaments. I like the wreath on my door to be bigger and more ornate than the wreaths that I use on other doors and windows. But they must coordinate, so I use the same type of bows on them all.

This year I chose to do less lights and no garland, but I love the swags and the filled urns. It’s a simpler design but still festive. It’s warm and welcoming.
