WEEKEND MOMENTS | BROME FAIR

Labour day means different things for different people – the start of fall, back to school… But for me, it means the fair is in town (insert happy dance). It’s really not that exciting for anyone who didn’t grow up in one of the small towns in the area – when I bring friends or boyfriends, I can easily understand their lack of enthusiasm. I could spend all day at the fair, alternating between walking around, taking pictures of things, eating food, window shopping for belt buckles, visiting my dad volunteering at the barns or running into old friends.

When we arrived Saturday afternoon, the first thing on my agenda was to get myself some mini donuts. After (pretty much) completing my whole30, these donuts – that I enjoy only once a year – were orgasmicly greasy and topped with just the right amount of powdered sugar. I also enjoyed some buttery corn on the cob and a deliciously cheesy poutine. I held back from the funnel cake and didn’t buy any of the 2 dollar bags of candy – younger me would be shaking her head disappointingly.

Matt had fun at the petting zoo – and I fell in love with a baby potbelly pig that was just the sweetest, itchiest little black pig you could scratch. I lost a few quarters in the claw machines, attempting to get a mini rasta banana. But losing quarters in the orange claw games is a tradition I plan to uphold. At least now I’m old enough that I don’t have to beg my dad for more quarters. Though I would not say no if he offered…
