mama monday [shaving time as a new working mom]

when i first had lily back in march, i spent about a month in sweatpants, showering quickly only when someone was there to watch her, and i remember leaving the house exactly once (my mom and husband "strong-armed" me into a mani-pedi).

there was no time, no anything other than caring for lily. luckily, my husband, family, and friends were amazing in taking care of us. people brought us food, my sister moved in for a week, and jason went as far as creating a little stockpile of basic necessities. (i think we had toilet paper and canned goods to last us through lily's 2nd birthday.)

we eventually got our act together in the "getting out of the house" department, but i'm always looking for ways to shave time (yes, i said shave) because as a working mom, i want to spend as much time as possible with my little family when the workday is done.

for your reading pleasure, i've come up with a list of time shaving tips for mamas-to-be and new mamas alike:

  • stockpile basic necessities before baby comes
  • cook and freeze food for the weeks after the baby arrives (because hunny, you won't be cookin')
  • run errands during your lunch break. so you have plenty of time for baby and hubby after work
  • prep lunches, bottles, diaper bags, the baby's and your outfit the night before so your mornings aren't insane (we're still working on this. i get up at 5:30am and still have a hard time getting out the door before 7:15am. what do i do for almost 2 hours? i'll let you know when i figure it out...)
  • shower the night before. as a serial long-shower-taker, there's no such thing as a "quick shower". (i can stand there for hours and then oops, no time to do your hair/makeup before work!)
  • learn a 5-minute makeup routine and have go-to hairstyles (beyond the pony tail) you've mastered. i'm getting good at this: concealer, tinted moisturizer, illuminator for cheeks, eye shadow, eyeliner, brow filler, mascara. in that order. 5-6 minutes tops!
  • try delivery services like

speaking of dollar shave club - i know you've seen all the
viral, hilarious videos and posts on facebook. i have too, and i was intrigued. any product that will shave me time (and, i guess, my legs) is aces in my book, especially since i'm the worst at remembering to buy razors (and grocery shop in general. who has time for that?).

i have to admit that at first, i thought it was just for guys. but after looking at the blades offered and seeing the 4x for just $6/month, i knew they had a winner.

it's easy - just pick your razor, pay a low monthly fee ($1,$6, or $9 depending on the razor) and they send you refills every month. upgrade or cancel any time. easy peasy mac'n'cheesy.

so there are my tips. how do you shave time as a new mom? i'd love to hear (or i guess, read) them!
