All the girls in my family wear glasses. Except me. I’m not sure why I lucked out with the decent set of eyeballs, but being a daughter of 1 and sister of 2 ocularly challenged females, I’m familiar with the frustrations of finding stylish and affordable frames. Since glasses have been on my fashion radar for the past few years, I’ve realized that even though their sight-improving abilities are essential — as a pure accessory, I’m obsessed.
Who doesn’t look adorable in a pair of horn-rimmed specs? Glasses provide an easy and fun way to experiment with completely different looks. You can try rounder frames to channel your inner Jackie O, angular frames for a more classic and sophisticated look, a cat-eye for a retro, rockabilly vibe — you get the point!

From the pages of Vogue to the indie boutique down the street, companies are releasing fun frame styles ranging from futuristic to vintage, minimalistic to over-the-top trendy, and so on. But it all ends up moot when the quality you’re looking for has a price tag of $200 . Enter, Rowley Eyewear.
I’ve been a fan of Cynthia Rowley‘s designs for a long time. So when I heard she was launching Rowley Eyewear (women’s) and Mr. Powers (men’s), I flipped out. The frame styles offered are stunning, and the quality is nothing less than what you’d expect from an established designer. The best part about these lines is that although you’re getting high end quality and style, you’re only paying $100-$140 — including a prescription. Insane. I love it.
I chose 2 pairs to try out: the No. 99 in Tortoise (regular specs) from Mr. Powers, and the No. 58 in Mint (sunglasses) from Rowley Eyewear. I really liked the feel of both. They weren’t clunky or heavy, so they sat on the bridge of my nose comfortably and after a whole day of wear, I didn’t have any sore spots or redness. If there’s any sort of pressure on my nose for an extended period of time, I get a really bad headache and that didn’t happen with these. The fact that they were lightweight didn’t make them feel cheap, which is also worth noting. The arms weren’t too loose or too tight, and I didn’t get any soreness behind my ears — another a huge plus! Here’s my only complaint: the case they came in has a large zipper that I had trouble zipping/unzipping. That’s it. At $100-$140 a pair, these are a no-brainer. The styles speak for themselves.
