Dear Running, I just can’t quit you

I remember Kristen telling me raving about Katy’s Place when we were having coffee before the Big Sur Marathon.

When your friends recommend places to eat, you should always listen. They really want what’s best for you.

I had the ham cheese omelet which I could not finish and Mike had eggs and biscuits and gravy. We can’t wait to go back!

We saw this on our walk back to the car. I can’t get over how charming Carmel is.

We went for a little drive and got coffee before heading home so I could get ready for my first run on the trail since May!

Coffee running shoes are a perfect match don’t ya think?

Thankfully Heather is usually down for catching a little mid-day fresh air. She met me at Fisherman’s Wharf to do my first run/walk on the trail since May.

PS if you run with me I will force you to take pictures. It’s sorta the deal.

Since I am starting from scratch, my PT has me doing 30 minutes of run/walking. One minute walk, one minute easy run. If you would like to give running a try, I think this would be a great way to start.

Surprisingly it was a little more difficult than I thought. My endurance took a big hit, but it’s a good thing I love a solid challenge.

Heather was telling me her trainer recommends she run by time, not distance. I thought is was interesting since I’m so used to going by distance. Maybe I’ll keep doing that even after I rebuild the barn.

I’m also cross training using resistance bands, plyometric exercises & balance training. Along with pool running and cycling. Now I shall never get board.

We ended up doing 32 minutes because I kept flapping my lips and missed the run minute twice. Typical.

My Garmin looked at my iPhone when I took this picture and I could hear the exchange between them…really, she’s proud of this?

Do you run by time, mileage, heart rate or nekkid?

Did you follow a training plan when you first took up running?

Nope, I just laced up an old pair of gym shoes and ran a quarter mile at a time.
