The Model and Me: Elm

Hello first day of spring.

You make me so incredibly happy with your mild sunny days and cool, doona-worthy nights.

You remind me that it’s time for a pedicure, that regular leg-scaping is now mandatory and that it’s time to re-organise the wardrobe and re-discover what I wore last time it was warm.

It’s also time to think about any new additions.

These weekly posts are designed to both inspire you to re-think and re-work existing garments in your wardrobe as well as give some ideas on pieces that might give your current wardrobe a bit of a boost.

Today’s feature piece is a brightly coloured shift-style tunic dress from Australian independent label Elm. It’s not a label available online through its own site but it does have stockists in boutiques in Australia and New Zealand so make contact via its Facebook page.

The print on this dress really appeals to me. If I’m going to do a print, I’m more likely to feel at home in a geometric. The colours are fresh, fun and work back with neutrals (I’d happily wear tan with this colour combination) as well as any number of my key favourite colours.

The navy panels done the side of the dress make for a flattering take on a tunic dress – but like with all over-sized shaped pieces it’s always a good idea to try on a garment a size down from what you normally wear. This reduces the amount of fabric you’re wearing and if it still fits around the bust and hips then it’s a good way to make this style work for you.

The fabric is 100% viscose so soft and cool to wear. It’s not transparent but I do tend to wear a Metalicus slip dress underneath all frocks like this in case of accidental exposure.

Let’s talk about the shoes … Freya and Sabine is the sister label of Zoe Kratzmann Footwear.

I love the low block heel for a slight dressiness in a flat sandal. And I LOVE the pop of colour. It’s great worked back with colour like this example … or as a surprise pop in a neutral outfit.

The brand’s website will be online soon but until then, contact via its Facebook page for a stockist near you.

Do you love a colourful print for spring? What’s your favourite season?
