Happy Birthday Yves Saint Laurent + Review

“The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.”
― Yves Saint-Laurent
A posthumous birthday greeting to Mr Yves Saint Laurent! He famously said one of my favourite quotes of all time - "Fashions fade, style is eternal." and his design for the trouser-suit for women,"Le Smoking" still stands to be the basis of many couture and ready-to-wear collections to this very day.

I bought the "Very YSL Travel Makeup Pink Palette" whilst on a trip to Hong Kong at the Sydney Airport. Airport duty-free shops sell makeup "travel collections" that you can bring with you on the plane and theoretically offer everything you need in terms of beauty and makeup. This particular one caught my eye because of its sleek design (slightly bigger than my iPhone) and it's bright fuchia pink cover. The gold YSL crest completes the beautiful case.

When opened, it gives quite a strong fragrance, smelling of luxury. It holds four eyeshadows, two l colours and a blush.

Eyeshadows: (from top to bottom)
Ombre Solo No.4 in Violet
Ombres 5 Lumieres in No.9 Taupe
Ombres 5 Lumieres in No.4 Parme
Ombres 5 Lumieres in No.8 Rose
Lipsticks:
Rouges a Levres
Blush:
Radiance in No. 4
The brushes are a perfect mini size for travel, and the colours bring a very nice feminine glow. The blush is light and gives a cute dollish pink but remains looking natural particularly on fairer/pale skin. I wouldn't normally use pink eyeshadows, but in light of spring 2013 runways from Topshop Unique, Chris Benz and Creatures of the Wind, it's a very interesting and unique look.

I opted for a light, purple-pink look (it looks darker and better in real life - my camera washed out a lot of the colour). The eyeshadows all contain glitter, however, it becomes less apparent the more eyeshadow you build up onto your eyes. The combination of the four eyeshadows makes for a perfect feminine smokey eye.

The fuchsia lip colour gives quite a bright pink colour - something I wouldn't normally wear, but the pink fits this palette's colour perfectly - a soft doll-ish pink. Both colours match quite well to pale skin.

Despite the high-end price, I absolutely adore this palette - the colours are soft and flirty and its size makes it so easy for people on the go.
