This year, I couldn't stop myself from attending not one, but TWO fashion shows at MBFFS. I attended the MBFWA Trends show on Friday evening, put together by leading stylist and influential blogger, Romy Frydman of
StyleMeRomy.com.
The spring/summer collections featured 35 different designers, ranging from the eclectic
Romance Was Born to the classy and expensive
Alex Perry. Viewers also can shop their favourite runway looks at
booodl.com.
I was ecstatic to learn that one of my favourite trends - monochrome - is still very much dominating the runways. Print was heavily featured as well, and in one collection, I believe that tartan is making a comeback. Tartan is also going to be featured from infamous galaxy tights label
BlackMilk's upcoming Harry Potter collection (due to be released September 3rd).
Monochome
WATSON X WATSON
Personally, I absolutely love the monochrome trend. It brings such a clean, crisp look to any outfit. I particularly love
Ginger And Smart's lace panelled dresses which accentuates a tiny waist on a bodycon dress.
Tribal
WHITE SANDS
Bless'ed Are The Meek (see
HERE) never ceases to amaze me - the fern detailing practically leaps off that jumpsuit. It seems that tribal won't be going out for the summer months, so embrace your inner tiger, everyone!
Print
TALULAH
I have to admit that my absolute favourite runway outfit of the MBFWA Trends show would be the
Suboo black leather crop top and the digital print skirt. The outfit basically screamed out "look at me!". Not only was it a monochromatic style, I just couldn't draw my eyes away from the skirt - the pattern and the digital print created an illusion of a 3D print. This was definitely a great design demonstrating society's advancements through the years whilst keeping a simple colour palette.
Floral
ALICE McCALL
I'm not the biggest fan of floral, but this year, I think that floral was handled very tastefully and with sophistication. Romance Was Born showcased a selection of printed floral bubble dresses, whilst most labels used floral detailing. I particularly liked
Flannel's embroidered shirtdress as it was reminiscent of those "asian spoons" that I had when I was younger to eat congee or soup.
