INTERVIEW: VEJA

You certainly remember my previous Veja feature posted a few week ago introducing their new sneaker La Memory (if not go here). I was very curious about the brand, what makes it so unique and how Ghislain and Sebastien, co-founders, started this adventure. Veja is almost 10 year old now. How did it all start? It all started very naturally. After leaving school, my friend Sebastian and I went on a round-the-world trip including China, India and Brazil studying all kinds of fair trade initiatives. Our passion for sneakers drove us to Veja and the desire to create a shoe respecting the environment. Few styles from the fall winter collection Why did you decide to set up your production in Brazil? We spent some time exploring the Amazonia, discovering and figuring out ways to valorize its resources while preserving it. Brazil offers an exceptional dynamic economy valuing entrepreneurship. How do your work with your suppliers? I think we are the probably the only sneaker brand with total control of our supplier chain. Our teams on site know all our suppliers from the 800 families producing our organic cotton to the 100 “rubber tappers” families in Amazonia. This is part of (…)
