DIY Fluted Skirt & Top

When in need of a quick and easy brunch look, my first thought was something bright and red. Because of the timing issue, I knew a skirt would be perfect. When I choose to make a really simple look I try to make it more interesting by adding design details to make it uniquely my own which is what I did using this ponte knit fabric that was given to me by a friend.

This skirt was made using this McCalls M6842 pattern view C with the following alterations: -Added 4" to the length of the back and front yoke -Removed 3 1/2" from the length of the ruffle pattern piece 8 -Added a 1" waistband -Cut the back and front yoke pattern at an angle to create 4 back pieces and 4 front pieces
Top stitch the yoke pieces and the ruffle piece

The top was made with this downloaded Burdastyle dress pattern with the following alterations:
-Removed 17.5" from the pattern length -When sewing the left sleeve to the bodice, left 7" of the seam open to make room for the zipper. -Added a 2.5" exaggerated neck (measure the neck and cut the fabric length using that measurement plus 5/8" for the seam allowance, the width cut should be 5" plus 5/8" for S/A. Use a interfacing for knits and iron to the wrong side of the neck fabric, fold the collar in half, baste and attach the collar. -Add the zipper to the sleeve seam allowance and the collar
