30 Plus Style and Beauty Featuring Have a Laugh on Me

Today I’m featuring Emily from Have a Laugh on Me as the 30 Plus Style and beauty blogger. I first met Emily at ProBlogger 13 and she was exactly like I thought she would be. She is funny, clever and gorgeous. She is the girl that would have been one of my best friends in high school. When I read her blog it’s always with a smile on my face.

Why did you start blogging? And has it changed from when you first started?

It’s been two years (Oct 24th) since I started blogging as a way to vent about life as working mum to three kids. I realised that no matter how much your friends and family love you they don’t always want to listen to you prattle on about school, kindy and fussy children.

To start with my blog was a bit of a moan fest but thankfully it’s blossomed and changed over the years and is now more of a light-hearted look at all aspects of life, not just parenting.

How would your friends or family describe your style?

When I’m at home or just nipping out to the shops they’d probably say I dress sensible, slightly boring and look a bit fuddy duddy. Although since reading Nikki Parkinson’s book Unlock Your Style I have made more of an effort to dress less like a dag and more like someone who is off to work even though I work at home!

It’s true that just a little bit of makeup and some well-fitting clothes can make you feel a lot happier about yourself. When I have to frock up I can and that surprises a lot of people, especially my mum.

The way I see it is that if you rarely dress up then when you do it will leave more of an impression; well that is what I tell myself anyway.

Who inspires your style?

Since I started reading blogs I’ve come to realise that it doesn’t take much to look good and it really doesn’t have to cost stacks of money.

Rach, you were actually the first fashion blogger I started reading and I try to pluck bits of your style to spruce myself up a bit.

However, it wasn’t your fabulous take on gorgeous outfits that sucked me in, it was your personality and the fact that you don’t take yourself too seriously.

I also love fashion bloggers that rock the smart/casual look without spending $100s because I just don’t have a huge bank balance to keep up with the season’s trends.

What would be your dream outfit and where would you wear it?
Wow that’s toughie but I’ll pick where I’ll wear it first, my 40th birthday party in 2018! It will be sparkly, sexy, leave quite a bit to the imagination but I will feel a million dollars in it.

Describe your biggest beauty disaster and do you have photographic evidence you are willing to share?

I was quite a fashion tragic at my high school balls, or formals as they are called in Australia. In NZ each school has one and I ended up going to about 5 with various people and I had a different outfit for each.

Here’s some evidence that when it came to ball gowns I didn’t have a clue! My hair is terrible in the white one, the red dress had a split that was WAY too high and the blue velvet number was so hot I almost fainted!

You have to host an important dinner party and you have to do all the cooking. What are you going to serve?

For starters we’d have bite-sized canapés, delicious seafood platters, deep-fried camembert with plum sauce and lots of Veuve Clicquot. Dinner would be an array of… okay who am I fooling I would totally outsource all the cooking to my mum who is a genius in the kitchen!

About Emily

I’m more than a cranky mum to three cheeky souls. I’m a word stylist, freelance writer, nosey journalist and a nagging wife who doesn’t worry about the ‘what ifs’. My blog is always honest, often humorous and never boring so why not come and have a laugh at my expense!
