Bubble Pocket Shorts : Shorts on the Line

The Shorts on the Line series is back! Seriously is it that time of year already?

I've been keen on these shorts for a while, then I saw these ones Jenny made and I was completely sold. I skipped straight over to Elegance & Elephants and bought the pattern.

It's been a long time since I sewed a garment for either of my girls. Anna is a fairly petite kid for her age so I made the 3/4T size. Unfortunately they only just fit :( I guess since I last sewed for her she has gone up a size! She will probably be out of them by the time summer rolls around, but luckily Lucy is waiting in the wings for all Anna's size 3-4 clothes. And I have lots of spare fabric so I can make a size 5.

The fabrics I chose are a shot cotton in charcoal from my local store, and a contrasting aqua herringbone that I had left overs of after using it to back a quilt. They are a great combo and I love the hidden detail of the contrasting inner waistband.

I made a conscious decision to sew with a solid fabric because I find that I'm often drawn to prints. Sometimes good wardrobe basics just need to be simple so they can be teamed with printed tees and accessories, and I hope these shorts will be a great basic for the girls this upcoming summer.

I sewed these up at a sewing get together with some friends. Amazing how much quicker a project is when you can sew without the distractions at home!

I'm really glad I invested in this pattern and I can see myself making several more pairs, both for my girls and also as gifts for friends.
