My Work // Light of my Life

Another little piece I created using gouache on dark paper. Initially this was just going to be a pure piece of modern calligraphy, but I then thought turning the dots on the ‘I’ could be an interesting element.

I’ve always loved the look of Edison light bulbs, and after researching these and seeing the twined cable that often came along with them, I thought that would be a more interesting aesthetic for the words thank normal calligraphy.

And so this piece was born. I wouldn’t want to say how long it took me to render all those individual little curves on the cables, but I think it was time well invested. I’m really delighted with how this piece came out, from the shape of the letters, the colours and the light effects. It’s really a striking big of typography and design.
