For one, this meant learning was more authentic. Rather than searching terms or methods, we had to discuss with teachers or fellow students. It also meant things were more expensive. Sure tablets and computers come with a large price tag, but considering that books are $100 a pop (vs. their $20 electronic counterparts), the savings are almost immediate. Other savings for the modern student – scientific calculators that are free to use (in college I dropped more than $100 on one of these bad boys), online book subscriptions, and countless free resources by those out to benefit the joy of learning.
Rather than complaining about the olden days, however, let’s look to the future and how well these growing resources can benefit students and professionals alike.
And the next time you’re in search of a new tool, be sure you can’t find it online for free instead.
