Are you into the back to school routine? We are working our way there! I love being home with the kiddos in the summer, but now that I work from home, it’s nice to have the house to myself for a few hours each day. Since we have fallen into the school routine, I thought it was time to fall into a simple chore routine. In our house, the one thing the boys fight over is who is loading and unloading the dishwasher. So, I started a small chore list, with meal time responsibilities. Today, I want to share my Easy Family Chore List & Command Center and I hope you’ll avoid some responsibility conflict with your kiddos!

I rounded up an old 18×24 poster frame I had in the basement and made a family command center to hang on the inside of our pantry door. I glued some scrapbook paper, offset, on the cardboard backing of the frame.

Next, I put the frame together, and on the outside I placed a piece of dry erase vinyl and a piece of chalkboard vinyl that I had on hand. Hey, if I’m gonna order the stuff, I need to use it, right?! I adhered these to the outside of the acrylic. That way I can write on them without having to take the thing apart. I also considered just using the acrylic as a dry erase area, but I was afraid that after time, the surface would be stained.

Using my Silhouette, I cut the first letter of each child’s name and the word GROCERIES. Then, using contact paper adhered those to the outside of the frame.

The chalkboard vinyl is where I am writing the responsibilities for each of my children for the week. Don’t be fooled. They have plenty of other responsibilities: make their beds, clean their rooms, vacuum, etc. BUT, meal time seems to be when we have the hardest time giving out responsibilities and they being ready to accept them.

The dry erase vinyl is where we will make our list of things to pick up from the store. And the bottom left, I hot glued some mini clothespins on it. I will hang our car keys on these. To hang it on the door, I used Command Strips.

And that’s it! I can’t wait to start using it. It’s funny how you can turn everyday items laying around your house into something functional for your family!

Being die-hard dishwasher users in our house, we need a dishwasher detergent that also acts as a dishwasher cleaner. Plus, I find myself reloading it over and over to fit as much as possible before running it! That is why we use Finish Tabs. They’re our favorite dishwasher detergent. With as full as I pack the dishwasher-and the boys not always wanting to take the time to rinse them-we need to make sure they are clean! Plus, I am fine with them using the Finish Tabs because you just pop them in the dishwasher and turn it on. I, and you, should always supervise them when they are using the tabs. No liquid mess or powder everywhere. It’s easy to pick up the Finish Dishwasher cleaner at WalMart, and even better when it’s on Rollback like it is right now.

How do you divide responsibilities amongst your family members?
