Promotion on Goodreads

Publishing a book is one thing, getting people to show more than interest is quite another. There has to be a certain level of promotion, preferably through means which are as cheap as possible, and one of the methods is to offer copies for review. Any independent author will tell you, sending out review copies in the hope, but not the certainty, that someone will pick the title up and write about it is an expensive risk. What, though, when you offer review copies and potential reviewers apply for copies?

Enter to win

This is the route I’ve decided to take first of all, using The Temptation of Words as a test. Two copies are on offer on Goodreads in a variety of countries and, as I write and only one day into the promotion, over eighty people have signed up to win. What I find interesting, looking through the list of who has applied, is the lack of male applicants. Roughly ninety percent are female – not that I have any objections – although I am sure there are just as many male readers, of books in general, as female.

The giveaway runs for one month, let’s see how it goes before marking anything up as a success or following with further titles.

Love & Kisses, Viki.
