SoNailicious at MBFWA 2014: Why Do People Go To Fashion Weeks?
If you’re attending a fashion week and photos of your outfit are not being taken, you’re missing out on half of the experience. Some even say Fashion Weeks are pretty much massive vanity fairs where people in fashion, go to see more fashion and be… fashionable! You have to look your best, it’s just the rule of the game. Even better if you look effortlessly chic, like you just wore something random without event thinking and it just happens that your outfit looks so insanely stylish that Tommy Ton ends up running after you trying get a photo.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to nail that kind of chic. I’m a perfectionist, well, aren’t all nail polish addicts are perfectionists? No sane person could care so much about the softness of their cuticles or if nail polish has been applied 100% evenly without any streaks. Who else would spend 1 hour drawing tiny flowers on their nails making sure every petal is perfectly round. So yes, as a perfectionist I like my make-up done, my hair brushed and my outfit looking sharp.
So for me fashion week is pretty much business as usual with the exception of higher heels, a bit more jewellery and brighter nails. I match my nails to the look too, always. Nails are a natural extension of the look, I want them to be statement but not singing their own song, they need to be part of the orchestra. Just like this outfit that I wore on the last day of Australian Fashion Week, aka MBFWA 2014. Even though the dress was quite simple and grey (not the brightest colour in universe), a dozen gold rings, mirrored sunglasses and a touch of colour on nails made it all work.

Ah, and to answer the question: why do people go to fashion weeks? As strange as it may sound, most people go there for work. Editors and bloggers go there to get some fresh content and well, for a bit of street style fame (who doesn’t like to appear on pages of Harper Bazaar or on Mr Newton’s blog!), PRs are making sure their client’s shows go smoothly and so on. Every person you see at the fashion week has their own job to do. On the other hand, fashion weeks are great fun! Who doesn’t love meeting new people, going to parties and spotting new fashion and beauty trends?!
So bring on fashion weeks, vanity fair or not, it’s an amazing opportunity to see the latest and the freshest, to get inspired and inspire and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, this year more than ever!
