Pink Ribbon Nails

Did you know that just in Australia, around 50 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day? That is 18,000 every year. Think about these numbers – this is just here. How many in the world? Anyone can get it. Many of us have relatives or friends who’ve fought cancer. So this post is to encourage you, guys, to get regular checks – just in case. Because the earlier cancer is detected, the higher the likelihood it can be treated successfully.

October is the month of breast cancer awareness. Every year the Australian Cancer Council runs the Pink Ribbon campaign, a nationwide fundraising initiative to raise awareness and fund research into breast cancer. It’s also about women uniting and supporting one another. There are many ways you can get involved, more about it here.

Raising awareness can be as simple as encouraging your girlfriends, sister or mum to have regular check. Our approach here, at SoNailicious is of course, nail orientated. For these Pink Ribbon nails, we intentionally opted for a simple design so that anyone can re-create. The freehand-painted pink ribbon to resemble the symbol of the campaign and a glitter accent to represent dream and hope.

To match the colour of the original Pink Ribbon we created a custom colour by mixing 3 different shades of pink. So if you don’t have the perfect pink in your stash, don’t fret! Just mix whatever pink (or, red and white) colours you have to get the desired shade. Easy!

Used: custom mixed pink color – Sally Hansen I Pink I Can (pictured), Essie Romper Room & Fiesta; Essie A Cut Above (glitter), Sea Siren Leucosia, Sally Hansen Big Shiny top coat. Wearing: Heart Midi Ring.

Hope you’ll join us and create a Pink Ribbon manicure this October to help get the word out there. Make sure to tag it #snpinkribbon on Instagram so we can all see each other’s work! The best nail art will be included in our big ‘Pink Ribbon’ round-up at the end of the month.

Stay polished and healthy, and don’t forget to book that checkup!

- Maria, xx
