Kitchen Shelf Re-Styled

In the bustle of life, I have been forced to look at this mess for way too long. I like these shelves for displaying decorative items but I have really neglected to do anything cool with them since we moved in. Way too many cookbooks and magazines (honestly I use Foodgawker and Pinterest much more often than these for recipe ideas anyway). A mostly empty dog treat jar because I lazily store the treats in their original baggies inside the cupboards or toss them on the kitchen counter instead of migrating them to their intended home. A Christmas cookie tin from holiday decor, some of Matt’s scotch collection (plus a bottle of Christmas liqueur) random bits of vintage glassware scattered throughout, and the burgundy Italian Cookie tin that I love. I decided that this finally needed to be done!

The first thing I did was clear out some of the cookbooks and magazines. I also added some cute gold striped Washi tape to the frame of the shelves.

I searched the apartment for stuff I already have that could be used on the shelves. Like a lot of us, I have random knick knacks and decorative items stored away for future use so now it was time to go through my stash.

I purchased a few more of these little wooden crates I found at the dollar store and placed them above the cupboards. I think I will probably paint them at some point, but for now they can stay bare. I added some dried flowers, bowls, my little wooden bird and that small blue suitcase I had kicking around for a more interesting display than what was previously there. If you can spot them, there are also two little tiny floral pictures that I will eventually secure to the wall and lift so you can see them better.

I got the little egg cup at a garage sale for a few cents and I think it looks perfect here!

I picked up this fake plant for a little pop of green and I can’t keep a plant alive for much longer than two weeks so I figured artificial was the way to go.

My favorite pink vintage glasses that actually come as a set with a lovely tall pitcher (that you can see in the before pic), but that I didn’t use here and a few of my Anthology magazines.

I am not convinced the bottom shelf is finished yet, but for now my vintage juice glasses and Matt’s “M” mug will live there. I am just glad I got the shelf looking a lot better than before. I really like it and every time I walk by it I smile!
