St Valentines of loneliness

I am dedicating this very post to all those of you who don't have a partner and are sick and tired of everything heart-shaped. And those who just came here to be with me for a second;) just keep on reading...

It is a sad fact that come January the stores start bombarding us with St valentine's themed everything. Starting with their window displays, finishing with chocolates, the color red and big hearts. It's really bad in the US, but Belgium is not far behind.

Perhaps it's the fact that what sells the most on this day is chocolate... And heart-shaped chocolate seems to be an easy choice...

It really annoys me though. All this buy-buy-buy on st. Valentines day.

I don't need this, nobody really needs this to know the big lovers day is coming... To be reminded to buy something special for the better halves.

I guess this is not a biggie, if you're seeing someone. You just deal with it. Perhaps even find it cute somehow...

But if you're single, all this love talk might get a bit old, sad even. Not to say depressing. It's like a reminder that soon everyone will be celebrating their love for one another, but you, the loser, won't as you're single.

There's something completely wrong with the way we see this holiday.

Then again, I think that even for couples the whole valentine's craziness may seem like a bit much. Especially, if you wait for that special day to express your love for your partner.

Then, my friend, you are not taking care of them at all. And truthfully, it seems to me you don't love them at all either...

I get it, all the annoying love adds are just business, but we still need to remember what true love is and why it's important to love and respect one another every single day, not just on valentines day.

So quit celebrating today and today only!

Be smart about it and start cherishing your love every single day of the year.

Hell, to show how i don't care, i'm going skiing today. Not only with my husband, but with a whole bunch of other friends;)
