A Happy Spring Card

Making handmade cards has been on my list to try for a while. Of course, I never get around to something new, if I don’t throw myself in head first. Such as, joining a Card Swap and committing to make 26 cards, when I have never made a card before.

I definitely pushed myself on this one, and I’m so glad I did. I was a little self-conscious of how my card turned out, with it being my first. But, it’s always nice to rise to a challenge, and prove you can do something.

It is kind of ironic that while I was making this card there was about 10 inches of snow on the ground. I believe I was pretty desperate for spring to arrive.

I planned out this card in my head only to get it on paper, and it look nothing like I had planned. I enlisted the help of a few card making friends to give me suggestions and just kept playing with the design until it was more like I had envisioned.

Of course, I pulled out my trusty Silhouette for this project, and put my sketch pens to work. I used this flower and card shape from the Silhouette Store. I positioned how I wanted it, and I used the knife tool to cut the flower from the stem. That way I could fill in the flower part with a sketch pen design.

I found pens to match my sketch pen’s color, and doodled in the lines to make the flowers stand out a little more.

While I was putting the card together I felt like it was missing a little something, so I added some green embroidery floss. Looking at it now, I think it would be nice to add some text to the bottom of the card like “Thinking of you” or even “Happy Easter” just to add another layer to the card.

Definitely a beginners card, but I’m happy with my first attempt. Hopefully the recipients will enjoy getting this little spring inspired card in the mail.

I have to give a big thank you to Meredith from unOriginal Mom for taking this finally picture. She got my card in the swap and this is the picture she took. It was a huge help to me since balancing on crutches and taking pictures isn’t the easiest thing to do.

Do you make handmade cards? Any tips?
