Models Own Nail Art Pen in Black

I have never been one to do any fancy stuff with my nails. I paint them and then that's pretty much it. But when I kept seeing people putting up photos of all the fancy stuff they had done with their nails it started to get me interested. So I went in search of something to help me do it and came across Models Own Nail Art pens.

This is a small bottle coming in at only 6ml. Which is pretty much £1 for every ml as it cost me six of my British pounds in Boots. You can choose from a selection of colours. I chose black as I thought it would be a good place to start.

The back of the packaging shows you what you get and what you can create using them. Handy.

When you take off the top of the lid you are given what is called a 'pen nib' for drawing more precise designs, dots or what ever shapes you want. All you do is squeeze the bottle slightly then move it along your nail. Easy stuff. Well so I thought.

Me doing a nice squiggly line. Ohhhh fancy.

The second part to this Nail Art bottle is the brush. My least favourite. You reveal this by taking the whole lid off. As you can see by this photo, the brush isn't exactly great quality and when used creates a weird line due to the odd bristles at the end which I am tempted to try and cut off. It could just be I happened to pick up a bad one but if they are all like this, then shame on you Models Own. (Pretty sure mine is a dud one though, will have to try and find other reviews)

The brush is very hard to control and just creates a mess more than anything. If I wanted to create a line I think I would still use the actual pen nib instead.

I must say I absolutely love the packaging. Very different and eye catching, though not overly sure what the eyeball at the top is about. Very odd.

So very odd.

I tried it out quickly to take some photos and to see how it felt. The above photo's nail was done with the brush. As you can see not great, but i probably need a lot of practice and given it was my first shot, not bad I'd say. You need to paint a clear layer over the top as I did find that it chipped/smudged very easily even after having been dry for quite a few hours.

I then tried the pen which was a lot easier to use and control though as you can see still not great. Looks like I am going to have practice my nail art skills a lot.
Not sure nail art is something I will take up anytime soon as I find painting my nails a bit of a chore anyway and this just adds to it. Maybe if I am doing something special or feel like being creative. But definitely not something I would decide to do on a regular basis.
You can see the other colours as well as purchase one of these pens here.
