Ask Brooke: Your Questions My Answers

Incase you hadn’t heard just yet, the World of Wanderlust App is here!!! I’m so excited to finally have an App available for my readers and fans because it basically means you can take WOW adventures around with you in your pocket and even if you’re stuck at home you can feel like you’re travelling 24/7! But my favourite feature is the ASK BROOKE section.. .
While I can’t answer EVERY “ask brooke” as there are now thousands of entries, I will do my best to regularly pick a bunch of random questions and post my replies. Thanks for keeping in touch — big love! xo

Annelies: If you had to stop travel, where would you go and live?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately because inevitably one day I will have to have a home base! It is surprisingly hard to live out of a suitcase for extended periods of time (okay probably not that surprising). I will always always always be travelling constantly but when I do have a home base I would like it to be in Europe – perhaps Germany! I love the country and people and everything about Germany!

Ashley: Hi Brooke, I know you probably get this question a million times over, but how do you do it? I am wanting to travel the world myself after I finish college, but I dont even know where to start. Any tips, especially about financial problems, wokld be extremely helpful! Love your blog!

Hi Ashley, I just wrote a blog post on this which explains how I can travel the world full time and talks about all the specifics. Aside from that I also have a book which gives full details on how I went from being in school to being paid to travel the world!

Kayla: Your blog has truely been the greatest find of all! I love following your posta, your witty blog entries and living vicariously through you! Thank-you. Just wanted to ask – How the hell are you ever going to come home to Aus and live life now you have had bigger and better experiences in almost every country?! Do you have any plans? Happy travelling X

Thank you Kayla!! I will be coming back to Australia after a year of travelling but will only be home for about 10 days! I am coming home for my sisters’ wedding and then setting off on the next adventure, heading straight to South East Asia!

Emma: Hey Brooke, how do you manage your finances overseas with regard to accesssing money? Do you have any credit cards you would recommend or do you mostly use cash? Cheers

Hey Emma! Great question. I use the 28 Degrees Mastercard everywhere I go. If they don’t take credit card, I keep a small amount of cash on me (usually $USD, Euros or Pounds). If they don’t accept this, I will go and get some money exchanged. I’m very casual about it as most places take credit card these days!

Andreja: How do you organize your photos so you can share them anytime on your blog and other social media? Do you use Dropbox or any other tool you find useful? Thank you in advance!

I just use my iphone 5s and canon 60D. I transfer all my photos to my laptop (Apple Macbook Air) and go from there! I don’t have a lot of storage space available so I delete all the photos I don’t use for my blog – probably not the best idea but because I take so many I have to be ruthless and only keep the good ones!

Guzzy07: Hello Brooke! i can see from your instagram account that almost days or weeks you are in different countries, how do you manage to get visas on the countries you’ve been or you’re about to visit? I hope you upload lots of videos and someday visit Norway too!

Hello Guzzy! Being Australian comes with a few advantages – visas is one of those! We don’t need visas for many countries, in fact the only countries I have needed a visa for are Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Brazil – from memory! Even places like Morocco I haven’t needed a visa!

Sarah-Elizabeth: Hey brooke! I was wondering if you could give us aspiring travelers some tips for taking travel photos with an iPhone 5s? Also what sort if acessories you use? Thanks! Xo

Hey Sarah! I have an upcoming blog post on this which will give you HEAPS of information… I might even do a video for you guys as this is a very popular question! You can keep an eye out on my Youtube channel!

Brooke Hosner: I love to travel and simply cannot imagine living a life in which I’m stuck in the same place, never continue to learn, and don’t see everything there is to see! What is the best advice for someone in my position in regards to being a full time traveller?

My best advice for people who want to travel full time but don’t know how is….. Where there’s a will there’s a way! There is loads of information on this site and many other travel blogs that can help you plan to travel the world full time. You just need to save your money and take the plunge!

Fanni: Can you name all the countries you have visited?

Australia (my home); Argentina; Austria; Belgium; Bolivia; Bosnia & Herzegovina; Brazil; Canada; Chile; China; Costa Rica; Croatia; Cuba; Czech Republic; Denmark; Ecuador; England; France; Germany; Hong Kong; Holland; Hungary; Indonesia; Ireland; Italy; Latvia; Macau; Mexico; Montenegro; Morocco; Nicaragua; Peru; Poland; Portugal; Romania; Russia; Scotland; Serbia; Singapore; Slovenia; South Africa; Spain; Switzerland; Thailand; Turkey; United Arab Emirates; Ukraine; United States of America; Vatican City; Vietnam.

(also answered on the FAQ page).

Andrea: what would be your top 5 tips for surviving longggg airport layovers?
I keep it very basic! I make sure my laptop is charged so I can write (blogs or books), eat to pass time, shop to pass time (HELLO DUTY FREE), walk around as a result of all that eating, and people watch – my all time favourite!
Pam Gallego: Hi Brooke! When are you coming to the Philippines? I’d be glad to welcome you

Hi Pam! I REALLY HOPE I will be there in 2015 – I don’t know why but I have heaps of readers there! I would love to come meet you guys so it is high high high on my list!!!

Kendall: Hi Brooke! I’m curious what hotel you stayed at when you came to Nashville? I live in Nashville and am always looking for recommendations for out of town guests. Thanks so much! Kendall

Hi Kendall! I stayed at the Grand Ol Opry hotel because I was only there for one night to go see the show – ahhhhmazing! So much fun.

Daisy: Did you plan every place you’ve been to before you left or have you just make it up as you go along? Im looking to do the same as you but have no idea how to get started! thanks☺️ x

I had a pretty solid plan before I left home for this year-long trip. I knew I would be in Europe/The UK until around May and then head to South Africa, followed by South America, North America, and Canada. It has changed a bit as I have been going along but I looooove mixing it up and throwing a spanner in the works!

Kristine: Are you coming to Montreal? I would love to meet you!

I really hope so! I should be in Canada in December, pending all goes to plan!! I would love to meet you too!

Izzy: Hey Brooke I was just wondering how you find the time to blog when you travel all the time?

I truly have no idea haha! I have a very crazy schedule every single day and haven’t taken a day off blogging for the last year and a half since I began my blog! I usually write a blog and reply to emails over breakfast, go out and explore for the day, come home and write a post after dinner. I usually post once per day – sometimes more and sometimes less… depending on the day!
