Just Ace

As I write, there is a horrific loop of music on the TV thanks to ABC 2 going off-air for the night and inviting us back for more fun and frolic from 6am. While there have been a few things I’ve thought are just ace lately (hence the title of the post… deep), this for sure is not one of them. It’s like jaunty hold music and I can’t bear hold music at the best of times. Ooh look, something shiny! Let’s continue

Following on from my face dramas of late, I was heartened to see this beautiful head that is usually so serene and elegant and sophisticated suddenly break into a big grin that wrinkled her face pretty delightfully. Tina is amazingly chic and cosmopolitan and all those things I’ll never be, and I read her blog with great interest, despite the vast difference between us. She is an American living with her family in Denmark, and blogs about living in many countries. It’s a pretty down-to-earth view of what actually happens when you and your whole family are smack in the middle of culture shock. Her post about staying fit abroad was pretty lol-worthy. Anyway, I like people who aren’t afraid to embrace their face, especially as they get older. My favourite person to do this is the rad Skye, who in this post warned “Young women of this sunblasted land, let my weatherbeaten visage be a warning to you – don’t forget to wear your hat (for best results I suspect you may also have to give up smiling, laughing, and/or frowning)” and showed her creases in all their glory. I like that. It’s badass. I have those frown liney things too in between my eyebrows, and Skye makes me think I can rock them at least until I either care so much I get botox, or forever for the rest of my life.

My friend Kat, whom I mentioned in an earlier post, had me shrieking in the streets of Brunswick with tales of her mother disapproving of her foray into buying organic veggies. In her lovable English accent, she was mid-description of the conversation when I let loose. “Why are you fannying about with all this?” her mum had said to her. I declared I was immediately adopting “fannying about” and wondered how soon I could cultivate an English accent. She continued explaining her mum was worried she’d be getting ahead of herself, and after all, normal vegetables are fine for ordinary folk. “They’ve just got a bit of shit on them”. What a legend.

Speaking of organic veggies, I’ve been powering through these ones from Whole Larder Love. They make me happeeee.

The other thing that had me squawking in my seat was reading this hilarious description of a young reporter on board a Paula Deen Cruise. Oh my goodness, I love Paula, but this had me in stitches. Very well-written!

Speaking of well-written and trips, this post from Johi at Confessions of a Cornfed Girl about getting mistaken as her sister’s mother in Vegas (“That’s what I get for choosing to have children with a man who snores and eats bananas loudly.”) was the best. May we continue to look bangin’ for 65.

This is a very important post written by my mate Kristin. She’s been through some unspeakable horror in her life and continues to shine a light on domestic abuse so it may help someone else. Every single one of those signs she mentioned, I have been subjected to. But that was a long, long time ago.

And I’ll leave you today with this post from Lucy at Attic 24. I read her often, her tales of simple joys baking and crocheting in a frosty English town never fail to please me. She often takes a picture out her attic window over the beautiful English countryside and the view changes so dramatically with the seasons. In this post, she put all the photos she took through 2013 together…. ahhh.
