Veggie Mama vs Certificate IV in Marketing. Bring it.

This is a sponsored post for Open Training Institute.

The other day we were driving though Brunswick when Matt pointed out the university there. “Oh, I can’t look!”, I said, squeezing my eyes shut. “It’ll just make me want to go.” Not your average reaction, I imagine.

I can’t help it, I am obsessed with education. When I left my job at the University of the Sunshine Coast to move here, I was wondering if I’d be OK leaving the track that I was on to do my Ph.D. Could I really be finished with tertiary education? Was that really it?

Of course not. It doesn’t take long for my eye to start twitching, and my hands to run themselves over folders and highlighters in Officeworks once I’ve finished a course. I could totally be an eternal student (just like Crawl!), but having two toddlers means that traditional study is slightly out of my reach at present. So I’ve decided to study online. It solves both my dilemmas of having limited hours to learn, and increasing my skill set in my new career of writing online. Sure my journalism degree is a great foundation, but there’s so much more to what I do now than what I learned back then. What I’ve pretty much had to learn on the job in the last few years is going to be enhanced by the lovely people at Open Training Institute teaching me the ways and means of Marketing. And the best part is that I can do it at my own pace, whenever I can spare the time. Flexibility, yo.

I thought about doing a diploma, but that seemed utterly terrifying, so settled on the Certificate IV. Marketing will be incredibly useful for my line of work. I mean, if you want me making fun of myself and the odd DIY tutorial, well, you’ve come to the right place. But knowing how else I might be useful to those who hang out on the internet will be priceless.

So come along with me while I navigate studying at home online with a blog, a regular job, a husband, a cat, a social life, and two toddlers who need to be fed at regular intervals. If you’re thinking of going back to school and want to know if online training is right for you, then welcome aboard. Put the kettle on, though.

*Open Training Institute is covering my enrolment fee, as well as sponsoring the posts I write about my experience. You can also read along on their blog. I’m going to Get More Awesome!
