Friday Fitness Check-in: Dear BodyPump, Where Have You Been All My Life?

You may have noticed that I have been doing fewer Friday Fitness Check-ins over the past few months. I have decided to start transitioning this blog into being less about me and more about you the reader. I will still be doing these at least once a month because I am still on this never ending journey of health and wellness, however Fridays are no longer solely dedicated to my personal fitness journey.

With all of that said… I had a really great workout week this week!

Monday: My First Body pump class!
Tuesday: Spin & upper body strength training
Wednesday: Rest (I was so sore!)
Thursday: Zumba
Friday: Bodypump
Saturday: Teaching Zumba

My First Bodypump class

I have wanted to take a Bodypump class since forever. My girl Joi is an instructor and she is always posting about how amazing this class is and I used to just pout sadly and pray that one day I could visit her in Macon and take her class. You may remember her guest post on Why I Love Les Mills Original BodyPump Barbell Class.

My gym finally smartened up! In the beginning of the year they started offering Bodypump classes very late in the evening and they were an instant hit! So now they have added a couple lunch classes, I am so there!

Fortunately since I was so familiar with the classes thanks to Joi, I knew exactly what to expect. I knew I’d be lifting a lot, with different weights and mostly with a barbell. We hit every single part of the body including the hamstrings (hello dead lifts!).

What I didn’t expect was the soreness afterwards! My body hurt everywhere so you know I will be back (I just love that kind of torture! :)). The actual class was fantastic the music was great and my instructor was so helpful and awesome. I have officially joined the Bodypump tribe!

Food

I have been better than normal on the eating front, I have been looking to eat things with better nutritional value as opposed to just watching the calories. I will admit however, that I had a grilled cheese sandwich from Bryant Park when I was on a photo walk practicing my photography and it was pretty good. That had no nutritional value whatsoever.

Weight

I haven’t been weighing as obsessively as I have in the past few months. Since fitting into my dresses without dropping a pound, my eyes have been opened. If I keep eating properly, and busting my tail at the gym (hello twice weekly Bodypump!) then I should eventually be exactly where I want to be–regardless of what the scale says.

I do have one pair of jeans that I try on every other day to track my progress. It is so much less stressful than seeing an awful number on the scale to send me into hysterics! I’ve also been seeing multiple (inspiring!) testimonies like mine of women that are dropping dress sizes but no pounds. Although weight is a fantastic way to keep things in check I am all about being strong now…how much more can I lift? How much more resistance can I put on my spin bike? Can I run that 10k without stopping? This is so important to me now and it’s easier than being consumed with a number.

My weight has stayed steady at my lowest weight since I started lifting more for bamageddon. I am more than okay with that.

Don’t forget to get your tickets to the A Healthy U Conference this May in NYC! We are working hard behind the scenes and it’s turning out to be a really amazing (and fun) event!

Have you ever tried a bodypump class? Do you focus on the number on the scale? Since the check-ins are going to be reduced, did you have any Fitness topics in mind that you want me to tackle?
