Are You Building A Generation Of Wellness?

This is a sponsored post on behalf of United HealthCare; all stories and opinions are my own.

I want to leave my kids a legacy of health and fitness.

I didn’t have a fitness legacy as a kid. I was way more active than the current generation because I used to spend my childhood days playing double dutch, relay racing, playing tag and being exhausted from the fun every single night.

However, when I got older into my teens, I did the exact opposite. I mean who wanted to workout when you had random people to chat with on AOL?! The hardest I ever worked was when I was on my tennis team. (that was HARD!)

Then came college, I was all of a sudden into fitness! I started doing way small though, I would walk on the treadmill for 60 minutes at a time. I did that for a really long time and the weight started to move… All of a sudden I was hooked!

from couch potato to fitness lovah ;)

My mom and other family members never were super active people. They were never active on purpose. They thought they never had to be. None of my immediate family members are overweight so they really had no need to get active. It wasn’t until I got into fitness did we start doing more active things together like 5ks and Zumba.

I want my kids to have the fire to move their bodies all throughout their lives and not be a late bird like myself. I want them to find their inner athlete early. I want them to be prime physical condition always. I don’t mean skinny, because as we all know, skinny does not mean healthy.

I want them to understand how important moving is. It seems like more and more we are drifting away from outside play and putting everything in an app. I don’t want my kids to fall into the same trap I did as I got older. I hope to instill in them that they should want to be active–whether it’s in team activities or solo. I want them to take the best care of their bodies, because they only have one.
