Mini Apple Pie In A Jar (Holiday Baking 2013)

I’m planning on posting a few recipes later on in my Holiday Prep series filed under my coordinating Holiday Baking series, but wanted to share this tasty and cute Mini Apple Pie In A Jar recipe in time for Thanksgiving. I made these this past weekend for the first time to bring to a Friends’ Thanksgiving party we attend every year and just made my second batch today for my own Thanksgiving celebration with my family. Pie is always a good thing, in my opinion, and apple pie at Thanksgiving is a must, but there’s something about individual serving pies in little jars that is even more appealing. I never thought pie could get any better, but pie in a jar takes the cake (pun intended)!

I first got the idea while scheming up variations on the blueberry pie I make every year at our Fourth of July party. I knew that some clever baker blogger out there would have the answer and after a simple search I stumbled upon Our Best Bites, a pretty sweet site! Our Best Bites is run by two lovely and talented ladies, Sara and Kate (you can read more about them here). Their colorful and informative blog will have you whiling away an afternoon perusing all of the deliciousness to be found there! I followed their Single Serving Pie In A Jar instructions using my favorite blueberry pie recipe successfully this summer and returned to it again when I decided to go the Mini Apple Pie route for Thanksgiving. It really is a very straightforward technique and I think it is applicable to many recipes and variations of pie.

For these autumnal delicacies, I pulled out my favorite Martha Stewart Living Apple Pie with Cheddar Crust recipe. I made just a few slight variations and doubled everything to yield around 20-22 mini pies using Kerr 8oz Wide Mouth Mason Jars. I love that you can assemble these pies and then just screw the lids on and pop them in the freezer until you want to bake them. Pie on demand! How cool is that?

The results were not only tasty but too cute to boot! Pie just tastes better in a cute little jar and that’s a fact. For a print out version of the recipes, click here for the Cheddar Crust and here for the Apple Pie.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving spent with loved ones. I am grateful for each and every one of you!
