The Beast (Ch. 2)

I believe I was unconscious again. Nothing strange went on except for blackness and crazy dreams of my sister, but I knew it was a dream. And when I awoke, I felt like crap. Complete shit. When my eyes finally gave me a little bit of vision, I noticed a girl was beside my bed, lighting a candle before what look like doing something to by bed. Because of how deep I slept and my position, the girl must have not seen my probably eyes open. And I could barely see her as well, minus the long black hair and grey maid outfit. Was this another dream? I don’t recall having a blonde haired maid. But the girl began fixing my covers which were crumpled and rumbled above my head. She stopped with a small scream when my body shuddered. “Faye!” she practically yelled. “You’re awake!” I opened my eyes to find the young lady close beside my bed. A bit too close to my face. She was a young girl, probably around my age with eyes like fire, like Vincent’s but hair blonde and gorgeous. “Who are you?” My voice croaked but thankfully my body was regaining it’s strength. “What the fuck do you want?” I asked, propping myself on the bed. Her small eyes opened wide with confusion.
“Faye, it’s me Annie? I’m your maid.” She put her hand to her chest as if offended. “No.” I have never seen this girl before in my life, except, “You’re the girl who pinned me to my bed.” Annie lowered her head, her blonde locks covering her red eyes. Her arms swung behind her back as she nodded. “Yes, you were having a really rough time. We didn’t know what was going to happen next so we had to do something. We were so scared for you.” Her red eyes appeared, flashing concern. “What was going on?” But while she spoke, my mind drifted to a new place. It landed from the new decorations of my room and wondering if while I was unconscious, my father ordered my room to look different to ease me, to what brought this girl into my life and into my room. The last thought was my sister. My blood went cold as I have completely forgotten about her for the second. “What happened to Scarlett? Is she okay?” Annie looked at me, blankly as if I spoke in a different language. “Scarlett?” she mumbled softly. “Scarlett.” My eyes raced to the door but Annie was quick, too quick, and sent me on my back before I could touch the rug beside my bed. “My sister. Where is my sister?” “Sweetheart! Please calm down, everything is fine. Everything is fine.” With those words, I assumed that she was talking about Scarlett being fine. And so my muscles loosen and I started to feel the cushion of the bed. Annie told me to take in deep breaths in which I did. After a coupled breaths she was off of me and sat on the edge of the bed. “So when do I get to see her?” I asked. “Pardon?” she asked. I rolled my eyes at her ignorance. “When do I get to see my sister? Is she resting? Is she at her piano class? I know you are new here but can you at least tell where she is? Or how long have I been out? Is already awake? I wonder what really happened that night at the ceremony.” Was it all staged? Was it all part of the ceremony? I know I don’t pay attention to the studies of magic but the people there, they were absolutely terrified. I noticed that I drifted to looking at my sheets when I heard, “New? Ceremony?” coming from Annie was a puzzled look. “I don’t believe I saw you before. When did you arrive here?” “Faye,” “Don’t maids call their masters by their last name?” My past maids didn’t but I always grant them the privilege too. But not her. Annie ignored what I said and continued. “I have been here for four years now.” “Four years?” My eyes widened. She couldn’t have been that long. Why don’t I remember her? “Your memory is really that bad? I know your father told me it was going to diminish after your accident but I had no idea that it was this bad. Not remember me. Naming random people…” I was just about to interrupt when her voiced dragged. “What?” I asked. Annie’s red eyes somehow looked like they have soften, slowly watering. “I’m so sorry.” She said, her voice cracking. “Wait what? What happened to her? What happened to Scarlett?” But Annie just shook her head, her hands clenching tight on the bottom part of her dress. I quickly arose from my bed before she could move to grab her by the shoulders and shake her hard. “Tell me!” I yelled. “Okay. Okay.” She asked me to stop. When I did, it felt like forever before she spoke. And when she did, her voice was soft. “I never knew you had a sister.” “What?” “Poor girl. She must have been so young.” “What, no my sister didn’t die. She couldn’t have. And not so young!” “Well when I came here there was no word of a sister.” “That’s not true. That’s not possible.” “Faye!” “Don’t call me that! I’ll get Scarlett for you. She has to be here.” “Faye wait up where are you going?” I was out the door when I heard Annie yelling for me. But I didn’t care. She may have quick reflexes but with us this far apart, I noticed that I was faster than her. With the eminse speed, I was able to run into Scarlett’s bed room, her music room and her mini library, all while shouting her name. But she was no where to found. In fact, those rooms were no where to be found. They were just rooms filled with what could be for Scarlett but nothing belonged her. I huffed as I slowly backed out of the room piled with books. Where could she be? She can’t be dead. I-I’ve seen father so she has to be alive. Father. Father. Then it hit me. Before I ran towards the stares, I spotted Annie bolting down the hall, screaming my names. The butlers and maids all stopped and popped their heads past the doors. But I ran the other way, away from her, to the stop of the house to where my father’s job was. Upstairs was dark, lit with red lights on the end of the hall. But I knew his door was the closest to the stairs. It was unlock with was strange. My father’s back was facing me as he sat looking at a pack of papers on his desk. I stopped, trying to stabilize my breathing but the anticipation was killing me. I ran up behind him and grabbed my father like I grabbed Annie. “Where is Scarlett?” I yelled. Instead of being frighten, he grabbed my wrist and spun around. He was stronger than me, but not as strong as Annie. His eyebrows furrowed as his lips were tightly pressed together. He stared at me with pure furry. “Faye you should be resting. And I am busy with work. Annie!” As if on cue, Scarlett was at the door, breathing heavily but not as much as she should be. “I’m sorry, Sir, she ran so fast.” “Father where is Scarlett?” My voice was now trembling. “I can’t find her anywhere. I can’t find her stuff” But her pushed me away. I stumbled, now weak to the nearest wall. “I don’t know who you’re talking about.” He snapped. “Yes you do. You have to!” I quivered. “No I don’t! Do we have to get a psychiatrist?” My body moved on its own as it slowly walked to my father. “But father, Scarlett was your daughter.” “I have no idea who you are talking about. You are my only daughter.” “But the ceremony. And the house collapsing.” I needed him to remember. I needed him to help me find Scarlett. “And you were in there. The house collapsed on you.” “If I was in there then I wouldn’t be here.” He said turning around back to his pile of papers. “But…” The rest of the words were caught in my throat. Was I about to cry? Was I about to scream? All I could do was reach out to my father. But before I could, “Annie, get her back to her room.” He said. “Yes sir.” “Dad.” I whispered. A groan of anger rumbled from my father’s chest. “Annie!” My father’s hand went up and slammed on his desk. The piles of paper jumped in fright but didn’t scatter. I was about to reach for his again but I felt Annie’s gentle hands rest on my arms “C’mon Faye.” She lightly gripped my dress and pulled me away from my father. I didn’t protest. “Let’s get you cleaned up and ready for the day. Your father looks really busy as well.” “But…” I mumbled as I walked out the door with her behind me guiding me back to where I knew. “Since you have so much energy now, maybe we can do something outside.” Slightly I took a glance behind us before he left the room. My father sat there furious, his hands over his hands covering his face.
“Get her out of my sight!” I could hear him say.
