Sydelle is from a village that is known for their sand. It never rains and sand is there main source for trade. Henry is her best friend and they have grown up in the same little village. Sydelle is a weaver and loves her loom. She is creative and sews and weaves for her village. One day while Sydelle and Henry are gathering food it begins to rain and out of no where a wizard appears. Not just any wizard Wayland North. North has come to warn the villagers of the coming war. As a thank you they offer North whatever he chooses. Well he chooses Sydelle.
He needs Sydelle to accompany him to the castle to stop the war. The King has been poisoned and is now dead. They believe a wizard is behind the murder and now WAR against the wizards is about to begin. In order to avoid the impending war North must deliver a vital message to the castle. That piece of information is who is really responsible for the murder of the King. It is a rouge wizard who uses black magic.
Now Sydelle and North set out on an adventure to reach the castle. Along the way Sydelle stops hating North for stealing her from her family and starts to care for him. North's intentions towards Sydelle are selfish and protective at the same time. North wants to protect Sydelle from the other wizards and herself but also he wants to use her to help him fight a cures that was placed on his family.
When Sydelle finds out what she really is, who she really is, and why North stole her, her feelings are twisted into anger towards North. Now North must make Sydelle understand why he took her, save her from the rouge wizard, and protect her from all that want to use her.
While this story was a nice read, I did not really feel that connected. I had this book on my TBR list for quite sometime so maybe I expected to much. I liked Sydelle character but there was so little revealed about North that I found it hard to really feel anything for the character. Even when you understand that he loves Sydelle. I feel that very little action actually happens on the way to the castle and was a little bored with the story. I feel disappointed in this book.
