Love Story: The First Kiss

I know it's been a while again but today I've got another installment of our love story. yay!
If you're new around here you can catch up here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin made me promise to give him the late evening time on December first. It was our first month of dating and he wanted to take me out for a surprise activity. I felt giddy all day. In my relationship with M we didn't celebrate the first month, in fact just trying to get us to celebrate one year was like pulling teeth. Kevin and I's relationship was so different already, and I was loving every minute of it. I worked hard during the day to get some projects nearer completion for Phi Lamb Initiation, which would be at the end of the week, and worked on my final semester studio project. It was dark out, I'd already eaten dinner, and the only instruction I had was to dress warmly. I slid some long underwear on and yanked my jeans up over them, never an easy task, then pulled two layers on top, wrapped a scarf tightly around my neck, stuffed my arms in my coat, put two layers on my feet and then boots and topped it all off with an ear warmer. I was anything but cute and attractive for a date night, but this Texas girl doesn't take to the cold well, extreme measures was a requirement. Kevin came to my apartment door and talked to my roommates while waiting on me to finish applying mascara, like it was going to help my unfortunate ensemble. Then we left to celebrate our first month. When we got to the car, Kevin opened the door for me and I slid in. He smiled, took my hand and popped in a mixed CD he made for the evening. All the songs made reference to the night sky in some way. We sang along together when
Switchfoot's Stars came on and smiled the whole time. I had no idea where we were going, the road was narrow and there was nothing but trees lining the sides. In the time I'd been attending school at OU, I really hadn't left Norman much and when I had, I was the passenger and didn't pay attention much to where I was going, trusting and rather naive of me but true.
We eventually pulled into the Lake Thunderbird state park, and Kevin drove us up to a pull off point close to the lake where we parked and got out. The wind whipped my face as we got out, how I loathed the cold wind of Oklahoma. Kevin pulled out a blanket for us to lay on and a couple more to lay on top of us. The moon was quite dim that night, something I learned later that Kevin had been praying for, and you could see the stars shining brightly. My surprise was laying on a blanket and staring up at the stars. So simple, so sweet. We lay side by side for so long, holding hands and just talking as we gawked at the beauty we beheld in the night sky. It was cold, oh so cold, but the moment was incredibly peaceful and sweet, I wanted it to last forever. Our conversation was serious when we talked about how creative and glorious our God was, sweet when we talked about our first month of dating and the road it took Kevin to get to this point, and silly as we realized we literally knew nothing about the constellations. Eventually that sillyness turned into lots of laughter and that turned into an uncontrollable tickle fight, that I was seriously losing. I gasped for air and begged through my laughter for the battle to end. I rolled over and Kevin propped himself up, then there we were just looking at each other. He leaned down and kissed me right there under the stars. My heart swelled and my mouth pulled into a smile but Kevin just looked at me with a puzzled look on his face, which I later learned was because he felt our first kiss was awkward. He asked if he could try again and I nodded. Then he kissed me again, this time right on my lips. We held hands and smiled the whole way home, our first kiss in the books.
