Home Inspiration.

As you’re probably aware, we moved in to our own place this summer and I’ve been hunting down inspiration ever since. It’s a work in progress as I’m a little picky when it comes to furniture; I don’t want to spend too much but I want to avoid IKEA where possible. Woe is me.

I love black grout and white tiles (source), at the moment our kitchen is sort of half-tiled (as in, halfway up the wall and not half-done) and I’d love to have a go at black grout either in here or the bathroom. I think sometimes it has a clinical feel but with a homely vibe it can look really chic.
Of course, one day I will have a claw-foot bath too! Watch this space.

I love the picture on the left (source) as it’s a similar layout to our living room and it looks like they have a marble fireplace too. I’m thinking about buying two sofas, one an easy grey that will be timeless and hopefully I’ll have for ever and ever and another a cooler shade – I’m thinking mint. I really will only settle for a sofa with casters so I may be waiting some time! I think I have found the ones I want, so perhaps it’s time to stop buying pineapple trinkets and start saving…
I have a simple glass nesting coffee table to put in the living room, which I think will be another classic piece that won’t be dated in a few years.

I don’t think I’ll do too much black and white, but I do like the crisp, fresh feel a white room gives off. We used to have a gallery wall like in the first picture (source) in the old flat, so I think I’ll re-do it with new prints. I also love the cushions, I think they’ve put bigger inner cushions in to too-small covers to get that effect.
I really, really want a marble dining table (source)! I just bought some Ercol Goldsmith chairs and I think the wood will go perfectly with a sleek marble table, but I’m not sure where I will find one so I may have to DIY it. We’ll see.

I’ve told myself I won’t go overboard on white in the bedroom (source), but it’s so hard when it looks so bright! Although we have big windows, mostly during the winter the days are so, so grey which really gets me down. I love lots of light and white really enhances a room.
I think I’ll paint the floorboards white as they’re already a questionable dark blue and it’s easier than sanding them back, but I think white walls might be too much for such a large room. I think I’ll opt for a soft, very muted grey/lilac all over – just a touch of pastel colour to compliment the room.

I would love to have floor to ceiling bookshelves; my parents have a library in their house and my mum had the shelving custom made. They’ve put their house up for sale, so it might be time for me to get hinting! We have really high ceilings though so it might not work but I’m still holding on to hope.

What do you think of my inspiration? I’m on Pinterest here, also.
