DIY Wire Mesh Memo Board
Whenever I cast my eye over my desk I always find notes, cards and other small items I like to keep. I occasionally see images of completely spotless and super-tidy work spaces online and wonder how these people do it. I’m the person with the ‘desk drawer of shame’. That means that everything I’m not quite sure what to do with or can’t be bothered to file away at that moment in time tends to end up ‘out of sight out of mind’ in that drawer.
There is, of course, a more elegant way to deal with these things. A memo board that can beautifully double as an inspiration board to put all these pieces of paper and pretty items on.
As I quite like the current industrial look, I thought something to match this would be great. And of course I wanted something that wouldn’t break the bank.
So, this is my idea for a memo and inspiration board which you could just as well use to hang small and light utensils in the kitchen. Not bad for a piece of metal mesh, right?
Here’s what you’ll need…
1 galvanised mesh panel, found in the garden section of DIY stores
thick and heavy twine
pliers
scissors
And here’s how it’s done…
Determine the size you would like your board to be. The side where you cut will be the top of the board, so you will need to cut the metal close to the part to be discarded to have the small overhanging parts left on your board.
Cut along the entire length. Cut a piece of twine three times the length of the top with the pliers.
Lay the middle third of the twine onto the top and ‘fold’ over each piece of metal using your pliers.
Cut two more pieces of twine, each two inches longer than the sides of the board. On each side of the board, fold in the end part, one ‘square’ in, with the piece of twine placed between the two parts. Tie a simple knot into each end of the string.
That’s it. All you need now is a nail in the wall and some paper clips or hooks to hang whatever it is you want to remember or keep onto your new board.
