How to Use the MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct Products

A few weeks ago I had a one-on-one session with a MAC Cosmetics Senior Artist, who showed me how to use the new Prep Prime CC Colour Correct range. The yellow, lavender, orange and beige shades look a little scary, but once you learn how to apply them you can create a beautifully even skin tone.

Here Cher Webb explains what the CC Colour Correct collection is about and how to apply the products…

“The CC collection is a new line of colour correcting powders and BB creams. A few years ago we had colour correctors on the market, but they were always known for being thick formulas, and I think people were quite scared of them. So what we’re trying to encourage now is an enhancement of your makeup bag – something that becomes a key player but won’t ultimately change your face.

In the collection we have a BB Cream, a loose powder and a pressed powder. The BB Cream stands for beauty balm, and it’s a light moisturising product that goes on after moisturiser. It can be used as a base on its own, because it’s got a slight coverage to it, but you can also wear it under your regular foundation. If you use a brush for your foundation I would also use that to apply the BB Cream – but wipe it with a tissue before and after. It will give an airbrushed effect.

Both powders do a similar thing – but some people prefer pressed and others like loose better. They lightly cover the skin and blur out any imperfections. You would use the powders on top of your foundation, and they don’t look heavy on the skin.”

And here is Cher’s guide to finding the right CC shade for your skin tone…

“The collection looks like an ice cream palette, so it can be quite daunting for a lot of women. But highlighting and contouring are so big at the moment, and this collection is the next step up from that.

Illuminate is our lavender shade. This is perfect for olive skin tones that have yellow undertones. Sun-kissed skin on an olive skin tone looks great, so this lavender will help balance any yellow or dull areas and brighten the skin to make it look more bronzed.

Neutralize is the yellow shade, which is for any pink nuances in the skin. So especially around the T-zone, cheeks and chin. It’s a very soft, powdery banana colour which will take down any pinkness.

Adjust is the one that’s extremely popular. It’s for a medium skin tones and is a peachy beige shade. It brightens and lifts.

Recharge is the richer, orange version of Adjust, so it’s perfect for darker complexions. It helps to erase any grey or ashy tones in the skin, so certain areas that are slightly pigmented around the mouth and nose area can be brightened up and made to look more even.”
